Friendships breaks hearts too

We often talk about heartbreak 
from relationships
What about the heartbreak 
caused by a dear friend
If you ask me, that causes deeper trauma.

With a romantic partner 
you almost expect it to end 
one way or another 
But we never seem to imagine 
the end of a friendship 
To have someone so close to your heart
With only blood as a barrier
becoming a stranger again.

If you ask me 
it takes longer to recover from those 
you become hesitant to let anyone 
close enough to share secrets with
Always being aware of the arms lengths 
at which you keep those around you
Not being comfortable 
to call someone your best friend.
