I am made of two shades of life

I am made of two shades of life.
Obsessed with the coldness of rain yet still yearning for warmth from sunlight.
Taught to camouflage the ugly and amplify the beauty.
Block out the dark and embrace the light.

Even my iris and skin are confused on the proper shades to show,
the percentage of brown to glow.
Then you came around and started mixing your colors on my canvas.
No longer bland I found it beautiful.
Until I realized you were painting a picture of you.
Erasing my beauty marks and drawing only scars.
I almost forgot how colorful I once was.
Sharpening my brushstrokes trying closely to resemble myself again.
…But able to recognize pieces of you in the background.

I am made of two shades of life.
Still learning how to blend into even tones.
I didn’t get to choose all my colors but I will use them to paint a masterpiece.
