Let Us Celebrate Black Excellence

I remember the time I was scared to claim where I came from.
Ashamed to speak the land of my ancestors.
Afraid of the looks, laughs and giggles
that I knew would surely follow.

But now look at them-
more than ready to claim my traditions
as they are
-
shaking their bodies in hopes that it will move like mine.
Their mouths salivate for the richness of our culture.

Plumping their lips and hips.
Reshaping their sides and thighs.
Wearing our fabrics,
they can never match our style.

Before they label my people poor,
I wonder if they Gave back what was stolen from us
would it even be possible to compare true wealth?

Everywhere we Witness gilded kings and queens
forging paths, breaking generational curses.

let us stave off black trauma.
We will no longer satisfy the white man with our victim speech.

We will raise our flags of victory.

Listen to the cheering of our people-
This is not the time to mark ourselves as inferior.
We are warriors,
We are superior.
We are black,
and we are proud.
We will not whisper,
we will not bow.
We are black,
And we are proud.
our excellence continues long past this allotted time.
