In the Wake of Calamity

In the Wake of Calamity deals with the aftermath of tragedy, efforts to rebuild, and the resilience of a nation yearning for change. Through these poems, I aim to highlight the strength and determination of the Haitian people, shining a light on their unyielding spirit.

Mirrored Whispers

Mirrored Whispers explores relationships—from the love of a mother to a daughter’s dreams, the intricate dynamics of growing up within division, to a father’s own immigration saga. This section is a heartfelt exploration of familial bonds and personal growth amidst challenges.

Subtle Blessings

Glimpses of Home

Glimpses of Home reflects the trials of not belonging, evolving into the triumphant realization of finding ‘home,’ a place transcending borders, culminating in unity and love. This final section celebrates the journey of self-discovery and acceptance, capturing the essence of what it means to truly belong.

The Symbolism of the Glasshouse

The title, Haitian Views Through the Glasshouse, symbolizes the reverberation of pain and hardship. It hints at the themes of resilience and strength that emerge from such experiences, capturing the glasshouse as a space of containment and introspection while highlighting the echoes of my journey and emotions. The “glasshouse” represents America, with the reader exploring the “views” (challenges, beauty, culture) looking back on Haiti. The cover illustration, with a balcony overlooking Haiti, offers a brief overview of life in Haiti, showing merchants, children, and homes at the bottom.

As we mark the one-month anniversary of Haitian Views Through the Glass House, I am filled with gratitude for each one of you who has supported this collection. Your love and encouragement fuel my passion for writing and sharing these stories. Thank you for being part of this journey and for celebrating Haitian heritage and immigrant stories with me. Here’s to many more months of poetry and shared experiences.

Stay connected and continue to share your thoughts and reflections. Your voices are what make this journey so meaningful. 💬✍🏾
